Only four players who began their careers with the Orioles have reached 100 homers in their first 600 games: Boog Powell (107), Chris Hoiles (105), Manny Machado (104) and Eddie Murray (101). No Orioles batter has totaled 100 career homers within the first 550 games.

Mancini is taking on more of a leadership role, even exceeding his influence in 2019.

“A lot more. Speaks up a lot more,” manager Brandon Hyde said on his Zoom call.

“Trey’s one of those guys where when he speaks everybody listens, and he’s had a couple instances where he’s gotten the group together to say some things, and I think it’s really hit home. I think that he’s becoming more comfortable with it. A couple years ago it was still early in his career and finding his way a little bit, but now he’s a really good major league player and he knows it and he has things to share and he’s a lot more comfortable talking to individuals or a group.”

Austin Wynns is catching today. He’s 5-for-12 with a home run lifetime against the Rays.

“He’s only had a few starts, but the starts he’s been back there, I thought he’s caught the ball well, he’s done a nice job behind the plate and he’s going to continue getting opportunities behind the plate,” Hyde said.

“Wynnie’s a guy that a lot of these guys have known for a long time. Some of these guys came up through the minor leagues and he’s got a relationship with a lot of them already – Mancini, (Stevie) Wilkerson, some of the guys that have been in the organization. Wynnie is a guy that everybody likes and likes to have around, so he’s a positive influence on everybody.”

Jorge López has faced the Rays three times in his career and allowed four runs and 14 hits in 12 innings. He’s made two appearances at Tropicana Field and surrendered one run in six innings.

A loss today would give the Orioles a club-record 14 in a row on the road.

Former Orioles left-hander Rich Hill is 5-2 with a 3.05 ERA and 0.984 WHIP in 12 starts. He’s struck out 63 batters in 62 innings.

Hill made a May 20 start at Camden Yards and allowed one run and two hits in six innings. Trey Mancini hit a home run.

Hill is 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA and 0.878 WHIP in 14 career appearances (four starts) against the Orioles. He’s allowed four runs and 11 hits in 27 1/3 innings.

Freddy Galvis is 3-for-12 with a triple against Hill. Pat Valaika is 1-for-7 with a home run.
