Kevin Gausman is fighting to get on a roll, with only one quality start in six outings and a 7.50 ERA and 1.967 WHIP in 30 innings. His 42 hits allowed are tied for first in the majors and his 25 earned runs lead the American League and are tied for second in the majors.
In his last three starts, Gausman has allowed 18 runs and 24 hits with eight walks, nine strikeouts and six home runs surrendered in 14 innings. Right-handers are hitting .347 against him and left-handers are hitting .302.
Gausman is 3-5 with a 4.69 ERA in 15 career games (10 starts) against the Red Sox and 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in eight games (four starts) at Fenway Park. Mookie Betts is 10-for-23 (.435) with three home runs and Dustin Pedroia is 6-for-20 (.300) with a home run.
Left-hander Drew Pomeranz has allowed three runs in 11 1/3 innings in his two starts against the Orioles this season. He’s permitted two earned runs or fewer in three for starts since coming off the disabled list and is averaging 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings.
Pomeranz is 1-3 with a 4.50 ERA in six career games (three starts) versus the Orioles. Welington Castillo is 3-for-8 (.375) with a home run, but he’s on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right shoulder.
