With the trade speculation engulfing Trey Mancini, the Orioles’ lineup for tonight’s series opener in Cincinnati includes him serving as the designated hitter.
Mancini is batting third behind catcher Adley Rutschman.
Rutschman has walked in six straight games, tied with Houston’s Yordan Álvarez for the longest active streak in the majors.
Anthony Santander is batting cleanup and playing right field. Austin Hays is in left.
The infield includes Ramón Urías at third base and Rougned Odor at second.
Terrin Vavra remains on the bench.
Cedric Mullins is one of four players in the majors with at least 30 extra-base hits and 20 stolen bases, joining Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez, Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. and Tampa Bay’s Randy Arozarena.
Ryan Mountcastle leads the American League and is second among major league first basemen with four outs above average (OAA), according to Statcast.
The Orioles recorded their ninth shutout yesterday, four more than their 2021 total. They have 50 wins, a total they didn’t reach last year until Sept. 25.
The Orioles have faced the Reds only 12 times in the regular season, going 8-4 in those games. The 12 games are their fewest against any active franchise.
Bruce Zimmermann starts Saturday for Triple-A Norfolk and DL Hall starts Sunday.
