The Orioles and Royals will try again today.
The weather has the final word, but it’s much kinder this morning.
Friday night’s game was postponed due to rain and rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader. Jordan Lyles is pushed back again to today, and the Royals are countering with Zack Greinke.
Bruce Zimmermann and left-hander Daniel Lynch start the second game of the twinbill.
Lyles has registered a 4.50 ERA and 1.615 WHIP in four starts, with 32 hits allowed in 26 innings. He’s 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA and 0.888 WHIP in five career starts against the Royals, surrendering eight runs in 32 2/3 innings and walking only two batters.
Logan Allen joins the bullpen as a fourth left-hander, with Travis Lakins Sr. optioned following Thursday night’s game. Lakins is here as the 27th man.
Cedric Mullins is 10-for-26 with four doubles and two home runs during a six-game hitting streak.
Austin Hays is 12-for-31 (.387) in his last eight games.
Anthony Bemboom is behind the plate for the opener.
The Orioles have scored 64 runs in the past 14 games.
Greinke has registered a 2.57 ERA and 0.964 WHIP in five starts covering 28 innings in his return to the Royals. He’s struck out only seven batters and surrendered two home runs.
Greinke has made 11 career appearances against the Orioles, including nine starts, and posted a 4.79 ERA and 1.243 WHIP.
The Royals are 8-15 and have lost seven of their last 10 games and 10 of 13.
Bobby Witt Jr., chosen second overall behind catcher Adley Rutschman in the 2019 draft, is starting at third base.
Witt is batting .229/.264/.349 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 20 strikeouts in 87 plate appearances. His 11-game hitting streak ended Wednesday.
