Aaron Brooks has allowed five runs or more in four of his last five starts and is dragging a 9.22 ERA and 1.756 WHIP into tonight’s game since joining the Orioles. His major league career began with four games with the Royals and he allowed 16 runs and 18 hits in seven innings.
Brooks has never faced the Royals or any of their batters.
The Orioles remain one home run shy of tying the 2016 Reds for most surrendered in a single season. The count held at 257 last night.
Royals left-hander Mike Montgomery is familiar to Orioles manager Brandon Hyde after spending parts of four seasons with the Cubs. He’s made six starts with Kansas City and gone 2-3 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.330 WHIP in 29 1/3 innings. He’s walked only five batters.
Montgomery hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last two starts over 13 innings, walking two batters and striking out 15. He’s made three career appearances against the Orioles and allowed four runs in 7 1/3 innings.
