The Orioles still have a chance to win the series in Kansas City today after last night’s 6-5 walk-off loss on the second Ryan Helsley wild pitch of the ninth inning.
Colton Cowser is in left field, with Leody Taveras staying in center and Dylan Beavers in right.
Samuel Basallo is catching. Taylor Ward is the designated hitter.
Coby Mayo, who hit a three-run homer last night, is playing third base and batting ninth.
Chris Bassitt is making his fifth Orioles start. He’s registered a 6.19 ERA and 2.125 WHIP in 16 innings.
Over his last two starts, Bassitt has allowed only one earned run in 9 2/3 innings. He shut out the Guardians over five innings on Friday.
Bassitt has made eight career starts against the Royals and posted a 3.60 ERA. He’s allowed six earned runs and eight total with 12 hits in 8 1/3 innings at Kauffman Stadium.
Royals right-hander Michael Wacha has surrendered only three runs in 27 innings in his four starts this season. He’s served up two homers.
Wacha has faced the Orioles 13 times in his career and posted a 5.22 ERA and 1.309 WHIP in 60 1/3 innings. Gunnar Henderson is 2-for-17. Adley Rutschman is 4-for-15 with two doubles and a home run. Pete Alonso is 3-for-7 with a homer.
The Royals snapped an eight-game losing streak last night.
The teams played a game at Kauffman Stadium decided by one run for the first time since Sept. 1, 2018, ending a stretch of 21 in a row with margins of two runs or more.

Second baseman Jackson Holliday is flying back to Baltimore to undergo an MRI on his right hand after leaving last night’s game at Triple-A Norfolk in the first inning.
Holliday struck out on a foul tip and was in obvious pain as he shook the hand and grimaced.
The Orioles had recalled Holliday from his rehab assignment with Norfolk, shut him down for a brief period and sent him to High-A Frederick for two games over the weekend. Holliday rejoined the Tides yesterday.
“We want to see what we’re working with, if there’s anything there at all, and kind of reassess from there,” manager Craig Albernaz told the media in Kansas City.
Double-A Chesapeake pitcher Trace Bright was removed from last night’s game due to lower back tightness. He tossed four hitless innings with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Note: The Orioles announced that they’ve placed closer Ryan Helsley on the bereavement/family medical emergency list and recalled Jose Espada from Norfolk.
Helsley has appeared in back-to-back games, taking the loss last night.
Espada has allowed six earned runs (seven total) and nine hits with nine walks and seven strikeouts in 10 innings.
