The Orioles will try to snap a three-game losing streak today and preserve their chance at a series split with right-hander Trey Gibson making his major league debut.
Gibson is the No. 3 prospect in the organization. He was on the taxi squad yesterday and had his contract selected this morning from Triple-A Norfolk.
The move hasn’t been announced.
Gibson has registered a 4.01 ERA in six starts. He signed in 2023 as an undrafted free agent and was the organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2025.
Gunnar Henderson is out of the lineup for the first time, with nine players hitting from the right side.
Blaze Alexander is the shortstop, Weston Wilson is the third baseman and Coby Mayo is at first.
Tyler O’Neill is the cleanup hitter and right fielder.
The Orioles are 0-7 against left-handed starters and they face Max Fried today.
Fried has held teams scoreless in four of his seven starts while compiling a 2.09 ERA and 0.803 WHIP with one home run allowed in 47 1/3 innings. He owns a 3.27 ERA and 1.000 WHIP in five career starts against the Orioles.
Pete Alonso is 10-for-42 (.238) with a double, two home runs, six walks and 14 strikeouts against Fried.
Fried’s ERA is 6.00 this season in two home starts, compared to 0.76 in five road games.
