Pedro Severino returns to the Orioles lineup this afternoon against the Yankees after a two-game absence.

Severino replaced Austin Wynns behind the plate last night in the 10th inning.

Ryan McKenna is in left field and Austin Hays is in right.

Trey Mancini has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games, batting .320 (16-for-50) with three doubles, a home run, four RBIs, two walks and seven runs scored. He homered and singled last night and is the designated hitter this afternoon.

Hays-Swings-Gray-HR-Sidebar.jpgHays has hit safely in 25 of his last 30 games. He’s tied his career high with a 10-game hitting streak.

Anthony Santander, on the bench today, is 14-for-45 (.311) with three doubles and four home runs in his last 12 games.

Ryan Mountcastle’s single last night in the 10th was his first career hit to give the Orioles a lead after the seventh inning. He’s the first baseman today.

Ten of Jorge Mateo’s 26 hits with the Orioles have gone for extra bases. He’s at shortstop.

Chris Ellis is making his third start. He’s allowed four runs and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings.

The Orioles are 3-25 in their last 28 games.

Jordan Montgomery, the fifth consecutive left-handed starter to face the Orioles, has a 3.52 ERA and 1.189 WHIP in 24 starts. Left-handers are batting .188/.235/.250 against him and right-handers are hitting .247/.309/.386.

Montgomery has posted a 1.93 ERA and 1.098 WHIP in seven starts since the All-Star break and has surrendered only three home runs in 37 1/3 innings. He’s made three starts against the Orioles this season and allowed seven runs and 16 hits in 14 innings.

Mancini is 7-for-19 with a home run lifetime against Montgomery.

The Yankees recorded their ninth walk-off win last night. They haven’t produced more since 2009 (15). Their 36 come-from-behind wins are third in the majors.

The Yankees have won 15 of their last 19 games, 16 of 21, 22 of 29 and 25 of 33.

The Nationals selected the contract of former Orioles left-hander Josh Rogers and added him as the 29th player for today’s doubleheader. He’s expected to start the second game.

I’m done for the day. Maryland’s football team needs my armchair coaching this afternoon from the uncomfortable bleachers.

Update: Manager Brandon Hyde said it’s just a day off for Santander after a night game. He could come off the bench, however. And McKenna gets to start versus a lefty.

Hyde said he’ll announce a fifth starter on Sunday. He indicated the start would come Monday rather than Tuesday, which pushes back Matt Harvey.
