The Orioles will dip into their past for a celebration next month at Camden Yards.
They have to go back 30 years.
Another anniversary is almost upon us of the night that Cal Ripken Jr. broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive-games streak. He reached 2,131 in a row on Sept. 6, 1995, and the Orioles are marking the occasion with a full slate of events before hosting the Dodgers at 7:05 p.m.
Ripken will be in attendance, but not in his usual seat in the first row behind home plate.
The club announced a list of confirmed attendees that includes Hall of Famers Jim Palmer, Eddie Murray, Harold Baines and Mike Mussina, Orioles Hall of Famers Brady Anderson, Al Bumbry and B.J. Surhoff, and former teammates Ben McDonald, Rafael Palmeiro and Larry Sheets.
Also appearing will be former Orioles broadcaster Jon Miller and commissioner Rob Manfred.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and pregame ceremonies will begin at approximately 6:25 p.m. and be carried live on MASN. Ripken will be driven around the warning track in a red Corvette convertible, a nod to his celebration 30 years ago. Ripken will speak to the crowd and catch the ceremonial first pitch from his son, Ryan. Other family members and friends will join him.
The 2-1-3-1 number banners will hang from the warehouse, as they did in 1995. Fans can visit a museum installation adjacent to his statue in Legends Park with memorabilia from his personal collection, including his uniform from that night.
Every baseball will be stamped with a 2,131 logo. The Orioles Team Store will sell a variety of exclusive 2,131 merchandise.
The Orioles wrap up their series today against the Mariners, and the homestand, with a 1:05 p.m. game.
Adley Rutschman gets a rest day. Ryan Mountcastle is the designated hitter and Coby Mayo receives another start at first base.
The latest outfield is Dylan Carlson in left, Daniel Johnson in center and Jeremiah Jackson in right.
Tomoyuki Sugano has made 22 starts and registered a 4.24 ERA and 1.306 WHIP in 121 innings. He faced the Mariners on June 3 in Seattle and held them to one run in seven innings. Rowdy Tellez homered.
Rookie Logan Evans has made 14 starts for the Mariners and posted a 4.36 ERA and 1.386 WHIP in 74 1/3 innings. The 12th-round draft pick in 2023 out of the University of Pittsburgh is 4-0 with a 3.32 ERA and 1.079 WHIP in seven home games and 2-4 with a 5.45 ERA and 1.706 WHIP in seven road games.
The Mariners lead the American League with a 42-22 record in August dating back to the 2023 season.
