The Orioles are conducting some minor league business, along with trying to fill out their major league roster.
The team announced the signings today of right-handers Eduard Bazardo, Wandisson Charles and Kyle Dowdy to minor league deals.
Bazardo, 27, made 12 relief appearances with the Red Sox this year and allowed five runs in 16 1/3 innings. He walked four batters and struck out 11.
The Red Sox used Bazardo twice in 2021 and he tossed three scoreless innings with one hit, two walks and three strikeouts. He was added to their 40-man roster the previous November.
Bazardo was designated for assignment on April 7, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Worcester. The Red Sox selected his contract in September and he elected free agency the following month after being designated again.
Over seven minor league seasons and 151 games, Bazardo has registered a 2.85 ERA and 1.129 WHIP with 423 strikeouts and only 21 home runs surrendered in 382 2/3 innings.
Charles, 26, hasn’t pitched in the majors. He’s been in the Athletics’ system since 2015 and made 30 relief appearances this summer at Double-A Midland, allowing 47 earned runs (51 total) and 57 hits with 38 walks in 37 innings.
Charles has registered a 5.56 ERA and 1.789 WHIP in six minor league seasons.
The Tigers drafted Dowdy in the 12th round in 2015 out of the University of Houston. He made his major league debut four years later and posted a 7.25 ERA and 1.970 WHIP in 13 games, walking 18 batters and striking out 17 in 22 1/3 innings.
The Reds signed Dowdy, 29, as a free agent in December 2021 and he tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings this season in two relief appearances.
Dowdy was in the Cleveland, Mets and Rangers systems before joining the Reds. New York selected him in the 2018 Rule 5 draft.
