The Orioles are expected to move pitchers Mike Wright and Kyle Simon, this year’s third and fourth-round draft picks, today from short-season Single-A Aberdeen to Single-A Delmarva.
Wright, taken in round three out of East Carolina, was 2-1 with an ERA of 3.77 over seven starts for Aberdeen. In 31 innings, he has given up 29 hits with six walks and 29 strikeouts.

Over his last three IronBirds’ starts, Wright allowed just two earned runs over 16 innings. He also has a 2.33 ground to air out ratio.
Simon, taken in round four out of Arizona, has pitched eight scoreless innings in relief for Aberdeen, giving up just three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
After pitching 129 innings this year in college, where he went 11-3 with an ERA of 2.73 for the Wildcats, it appears the Orioles are limiting Simon’s innings over the season’s final weeks.
Meanwhile, young Venezuela left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez left his most recent start in the first inning this week, but I am told it was because he wasn’t pitching well and not due to any injury.
The 18-year-old Rodriguez is 1-1 with an ERA of 1.21 in nine games in the Gulf Coast League with 38 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings. In his start on Thursday, he got just two outs before being replaced. He gave up two hits and one run and he hit a batter and walked a batter.
