Tonight, the Orioles hosted National Federation of the Blind Night at Oriole Park, in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the organization moving its headquarters to Baltimore. Orioles players and coaches wore specially-designed jerseys with Braille lettering, becoming the first American professional sports team to wear Braille-lettered jerseys. The game-worn, authenticated, and autographed jerseys are available at www.orioles.com/auctions with proceeds benefiting the National Federation of the Blind (NFB). The auction began tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET and will continue through Tuesday, September 25, at 10:00 p.m.
Earlier tonight, accomplished concert pianist and singer CARLOS ALBERTO IBAY, who has been blind since birth, performed the national anthem, and MARK RICCOBONO, President of the National Federation of the Blind, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The first 15,000 fans in attendance also received a co-branded NFB/Orioles Braille alphabet card, which were distributed by volunteers from the NFB.
