Meanwhile, those hard-charging Single-A Frederick Keys won again this afternoon, completing a 6-1 homestand today by beating Salem 3-2 at Harry Grove Stadium.

Mike Flacco hit a two-run homer in the seventh and I hear that he told reporters after the game, “I’m pretty good.”

Miguel Abreu’s RBI double in the eighth broke a 2-2 tie. Justin Moore got the win in relief and Sean Gleason added to his club season-record saves total by picking up his league-leading 30th.

Manny Machado went 0-for-3 and is batting .268, and Jonathan Schoop went hitless and is batting .231.

The Keys improved to 22-11 in the second half and they have the best record in the Carolina League at 63-39. That is seven more wins than the next closest club.

By the way, Frederick is one of three Orioles farm clubs in first place right now. The Gulf Coast League team beat the Red Sox 8-3 in 11 innings this afternoon, improving its division-leading record to 20-13. The GCL Orioles have the best team ERA in that league at 2.00.

The Orioles’ Dominican Summer League entry leads its division with a record of 32-18.

Update: The Orioles got a pair of solo homers in the top of the first tonight. J.J Hardy hit his fourth leadoff homer of the year on an 0-1 pitch from Carlos Villanueva. It was his 17th on the season and his 15th in the last 48 games. Vladimir Guerrero hit his eighth of the year two batters later for a 2-0 lead. Toronto tied it 2-2 in the last of the first against Brad Bergesen, who threw 30 pitches in the inning.

Final update: The Orioles lost the series finale 8-5 at Toronto. Brad Bergesen gave up six runs over three innings to fall to 2-7. O’s starters gave up 13 runs over 13 innings in this series. The Orioles have now lost 10 straight series at Toronto and they have lost their last 10 road series this year.

J.J Hardy had another two-homer game and now has hit 18 on the year and 16 over his last 48 games.

The Orioles play at New York Friday night with Jeremy Guthrie on the mound.
