Sarasota County Government’s annual economic report, which took place from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, found that the Orioles generated more than $69 million in economic impact and produced more than 1,090 jobs in the state of Florida, including an impact of more than $62 million and 1,050 jobs in Sarasota County.

The analysis measures the total impact generated by the Orioles’ year-round operations in Sarasota, highlighted by the team’s Spring Training efforts, minor league training facility, and numerous events at Ed Smith Stadium and the Buck O’Neil Baseball Complex.

“Our organization is at its best when we can give back to and support the community that gives us so much, both Sarasota and the State of Florida,” said CATIE GRIGGS, Orioles President of Business Operations. “We are extremely proud of the economic and community impact spurred by our efforts to make our Spring Training home truly feel like Birdland South year-round.”

The Orioles have generated more than $708.7 million for the local Sarasota County economy and more than $832 million for the state of Florida since 2015, the first year that data became available. This impact is delivered through the club’s continual efforts to promote tourism in the region, including $1 million annually in marketing opportunities for Visit Sarasota during broadcasts on the Orioles Radio Network and Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. In addition to Spring Training operations, the Orioles bring visitors to Sarasota County by hosting a myriad of special events at Ed Smith Stadium and the Buck O’Neil Baseball Complex throughout the year.

In that same time, more than 1.5 million people have attended Orioles games at Ed Smith Stadium. The Sarasota County Government found that attendees of Orioles year-round events spent more than $23 million at local hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments during the most recent report period. On average, attendees spend more than $14 million annually at local establishments, another major contributor to the club’s overall impact on the region.

This Monday, the Orioles opened their state-of-the-art Player Development Complex, expanding their footprint at Ed Smith Stadium. After breaking ground following the 2025 Spring Training Season, the club invested more than $23 million in team funds in the 47,700 square foot complex, marking a long-term improvement to the team’s facility in Sarasota and serving as further example of the Orioles’ ongoing commitment to their Spring Training home.

Since making Sarasota their Spring Training home in 2010, the Orioles have hosted a myriad of special events for the community and donated more than $4.4 million to local Sarasota organizations through cash donations and in-kind contributions, with an emphasis on combating food insecurity and empowering local youth through baseball clinics and the annual Orioles Health & Fitness Challenge. The Orioles regularly partner with All Faiths Food Bank, the only food bank and largest hunger relief organization in Sarasota and DeSoto counties. Since 2019, the Orioles have hosted an annual “ThankFULL” Thanksgiving turkey distribution for families in need in the Sarasota community, as well as additional food distribution drives at Ed Smith Stadium.
