The Orioles aren’t playing in the World Series and they still haven’t received a Sporting News postseason award.
Tough week.
Baseball executives excluded the Orioles while choosing the American League All-Star team, which was announced this morning. Shortstop J.J. Hardy, outfielder Adam Jones and designated hitter Nelson Cruz received votes.
Cruz batted .271/333/.525 with 32 doubles and 108 RBIs and he led the majors with 40 home runs, but executives selected the Tigers’ Victor Martinez,…The Orioles aren’t playing in the World Series and they still haven’t received a Sporting News postseason award.

Cruz batted .271/333/.525 with 32 doubles and 108 RBIs and he led the majors with 40 home runs, but executives selected the Tigers’ Victor Martinez, who batted .335/.409/.565 with 32 homers and 103 RBIs.
Martinez also is expected to win the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award.
The Angels’ Mike Trout, the Indians’ Michael Brantley and the Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista were chosen as the three outfielders. The Angels’ Erick Aybar was selected as the shortstop.
Cruz also received votes in the outfield category.
Also chosen were Royals catcher Salvador Perez, White Sox rookie first baseman Jose Abreu, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre, Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez and Yankees reliever Dellin Betances.
The Sporting News will reveal its Player of the Year on Thursday. The Orioles’ shutout streak will remain intact.
