He also has a 2-0 lead after Jose Bautista poked a two-run double down the right field line in the third inning.
Both runs off Alfredo Simon were unearned after third baseman Josh Bell misplayed Rajai Davis’ grounder with one out. Bell never got in front of the ball. He exhibited terrible technique, choosing instead of swipe at the ball as he rolled to his left.
Simon struck out Bautista looking at a nasty curveball in the first, and induced a pop up from J.P. Arenibia on a 95 mph fastball to end the second.
Update: It’s now 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
The first four Blue Jays reached on a single, double, double and double. Arencibia and John McDonald each drove in two runs.
Robert Andino doubled to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Finally, a baserunner.
Taking another look at the Orioles’ lineup, the 5 through 9 hitters were batting .218 (Mark Reynolds), .220 (Nolan Reimold), .273 (Craig Tatum), Bell (.118) and Cesar Izturis (.207) before today.
Update II: Izturis left the game in the fifth inning with a left groin strain. Blake Davis replaced him.
Could Izturis be headed back to the disabled list?
The Orioles could use a reliever (Willie Eyre?) Tuesday night if Jo-Jo Reyes makes the start.
