The Orioles still haven’t announced who will serve as their bullpen coach next season, but I’m told that they could make the hire on Monday.
Bill Castro, who moved from bullpen coach to pitching coach on Aug. 15 after Rick Adair took a personal leave of absence, hasn’t been contacted by the club. Neither has Scott McGregor, who replaced Castro in the bullpen.

Bill Castro, who moved from bullpen coach to pitching coach on Aug. 15 after Rick Adair took a personal leave of absence, hasn’t been contacted by the club. Neither has Scott McGregor, who replaced Castro in the bullpen.
Castro was hired as bullpen coach prior to the 2012 season after spending 37 years in the Milwaukee Brewers organization as a pitcher, scout and coach.
McGregor was in his second season as pitching rehab coordinator before joining the major league coaching staff.
New pitching coach Dave Wallace is pretty much responsible for making this hire, since he’ll work closely with the bullpen coach. Though it seems apparent that he’s looking to bring in someone from outside the organization – his own guy, as they say – one person with the Orioles said that’s “not necessarily the case.”
We’ll soon find out.
Manager Buck Showalter holds Castro and McGregor in high regard, but it appears that he’s fine with Wallace making the final decision.
Castro has no previous ties to Wallace. He also had no connection to Adair before 2012, which didn’t stop him from getting the job.
Anyway, that’s your latest update. Not much here, but at least an announcement could come immediately after the weekend.
