Orioles have three finalists for Gold Glove awards

The Rawlings Gold Glove winners for 2012 will be announced Tuesday night on ESPN2, and the list of finalists in the American League includes Orioles catcher Matt Wieters, shortstop J.J. Hardy and center fielder Adam Jones.
Wieters and right fielder Nick Markakis won their first Gold Gloves last year. Jones was honored in 2009.
Wieters is competing against the Tigers’ Alex Avila, the Yankees’ Russell Martin and the White Sox’s A.J. Pierzynski. Wieters is competing against the Tigers’ Alex Avila, the Yankees’ Russell Martin and the White Sox’s A.J. Pierzynski. Hardy is competing against the Rangers’ Elvis Andrus and the Mariners’ Brendan Ryan. Jones is competing against the Tigers’ Austin Jackson and Angels rookie Mike Trout.
Markakis isn’t a finalist this year after being limited to 104 games because of a broken hamate bone and fractured thumb. The AL right fielders are the Indians’ Shin-Soo Choo, the Royals’ Jeff Francoeur and the Athletics’ Josh Reddick.
Wieters committed a career-high 10 errors. He had five passed balls and threw out 39 percent of runners attempted to steal. Avila, Martin and Pierzynski each committed six errors. Avila had a league-leading 10 passed balls and threw out 30 percent of the runners, Martin had nine passed balls and threw out 24 percent, and Pierzynski had eight passed balls and threw out 26 percent.
Hardy committed six errors and posted a .992 fielding percentage in 158 games. Andrus committed 16 errors and posted a .976 fielding percentage in 153 games. Ryan committed nine errors and posted a .985 fielding percentage in 138 games.
Jones committed eight errors, had seven assists and posted a .982 fielding percentage in 162 games. Jackson committed one error, had five assists and posted a .997 fielding percentage in 137 games. Trout committed two errors and had two assists in center field, and he posted a .993 fielding percentage in 110 games.
Trout also appeared in 67 games in left and four in right, but is only considered for a Gold Glove in center.
The ESPN2 broadcast will begin at 9:30 p.m.
