Two more coaches are confirmed for manager Craig Albernaz’s staff.
The Orioles have hired Miguel Cairo as major league infield coach and Joe Singley as major league field coordinator and catching coach, according to sources.
Cairo, 51, most recently was Nationals' bench coach beginning in November 2023 and interim manager on July 7, 205 after Dave Martinez’s firing. He played 17 seasons in the majors with nine teams, finishing in 2012 with the Reds.
Cairo has experience at every position except center field and catcher.
The Nationals interviewed Cairo for the managing job but chose Rays senior director of player development Blake Butera.
Cairo was hired in February 2013 as a special assistant with the Reds, was Yankees minor league infield coordinator from 2018-20, Tony La Russa’s bench coach with the White Sox in 2021-22 – twice filling in as manager – and Mets minor league infield coordinator in 2023.
Singley, 55, is a native of Wilmington, Del., who caught in the White Sox’s system from 1987-90 and topped out at the Double-A level. He was the Marlins’ catching coach and assistant director of catching this year, which extended his duties to the team’s affiliates.
Singley played at Coastal Carolina and gained coaching experience there while recovering from four shoulder surgeries. The Reds hired him in January 2022 as assistant catching coach and bullpen catcher.
Tim Cossins served as the Orioles’ major league field coordinator and catching coach until his dismissal on May 17.
Buck Britton is staying with the Orioles, according to multiple sources, but his title isn’t confirmed. He was major league coach to start the 2025 season and became third base coach on May 17 after Tony Mansolino was named interim manager. He could remain in that role now that Cairo is on the staff, but the Orioles haven’t made any announcements.
Also returning are pitching coach Drew French, assistant pitching coach Mitch Plassmeyer and pitching strategy coach Ryan Klimek, per sources. Plassmeyer became interim bullpen coach in May.
Dustin Lind was named hitting coach, replacing Cody Asche, who moved on to the Tigers as assistant hitting coach. The Orioles hired Jason Bourgeois as first base coach, replacing Anthony Sanders, who went to the Tigers in the same role. Donnie Ecker is replacing Robinson Chirnos as bench coach.
Major league development coach Grant Anders won’t return, according to a source.
The Baltimore Banner first reported the Singley hiring.
