Elias is making his 21st start in his rookie season. He’s 8-8 with a 4.41 ERA, with 108 hits allowed in 118 1/3 innings. He’s walked 42, struck out 104, served up 14 home runs, hit seven batters, thrown five wild pitches and committed four balks.

Elias has allowed five earned runs or more in three of his last four starts and four of seven. He’s permitted only one earned run in the other three starts. He hasn’t gone more than 5 1/3 innings in his last three outings.

Elias is 1-2 with a 7.90 ERA in three July starts, with 12 earned runs (13 total) and 19 hits in 13 2/3 innings.

That leaves Gonzalez, who’s never faced the Mariners.
