TAMPA – Kyle Bradish will begin his injury rehab assignment Thursday with High-A Aberdeen, staying on track for a second-half return to the Orioles’ rotation.
Bradish had two ups yesterday during live batting practice in Sarasota.
Adley Rutschman (oblique) will start his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Norfolk. He’s getting at-bats today against Tyler Wells, who’s nearing his own assignment.
First baseman Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) will join Rutschman later in the week.
Left-hander Cade Povich (hip) starts Thursday or Friday at Norfolk.
Alex Jackson is catching left-hander Trevor Rogers today in sweltering Tampa. Jordan Westburg is at third base, Ryan O’Hearn is at first, Tyler O’Neill is the designated hitter and Cedric Mullins is in center after coming off the bench last night.
Rogers has a 1.53 ERA and 0.821 WHIP in six starts. His worst start came against the Rays on June 18 in Tampa, when he allowed three runs and five hits with three walks in 2 1/3 innings.
Rogers had permitted seven runs in 14 1/3 innings in three career starts against the Rays.
In his last nine games, Jackson Holliday is 12-for-38 (.316) with two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs, five runs scored and three multi-hit efforts.
Westburg is 25-for-83 (.301) with four doubles, six homers, 15 RBIs and 18 runs scored in 23 games since returning from the injured list.
Mullins collected his first pinch-hit RBI last night since April 12, 2023 against the Athletics.
The first of two Ramón Urías doubles last night snapped an 0-for-22 streak.
The Orioles are 29-9 when outhitting their opponent, which they did last night in a 4-3 loss. They’ve dropped four straight games and are 11 below .500 and 8 ½ behind for the last Wild Card. They’re 9-19-4 in series and 2-3-4 in series versus the American League East.
Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot held the Orioles to one run in eight innings and struck out 11 batters in Tampa and allowed four runs and five hits in 1 2/3 in Baltimore.
Gunnar Henderson is 4-for-11 with a home run against him.
The Rays’ pitching staff has an average fastball velocity of 95.3 mph this season, highest in the majors, per STATS.
