Cedric Mullins and Adley Rutschman remain out of the Orioles’ lineup tonight against the Cardinals.
Mullins hasn’t started in three of the last four games. Jorge Mateo is in center field.
Chadwick Tromp makes his first start behind the plate.
Dylan Carlson is in left field after homering yesterday for the second time in two games. His 107.6 mph exit velocity was the hardest-hit home run of his career.
Carlson is 5-for-12 over his last three games after going 1-for-22.
Ryan O’Hearn is serving as designated hitter. He’s 15-for-25 in his last six games.
The 15 hits in that span are the most in any six-game stretch in his career, and the most by an Oriole through six games since Trey Mancini in 2019.
Jackson Holliday has a hit in 12 of 14 games while batting leadoff. He’s driven in a run in eight of his last 10 games, going 15-for-48 (.313) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and an .869 OPS.
Gunnar Henderson needs one more hit to reach 400 for his career.
Tomoyuki Sugano has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his 10 starts.
The Orioles will try for their first four-game winning streak since June 26-29, 2024. They snapped an eight-game home losing streak yesterday.
Terrin Vavra cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.
Cardinals right-hander Andre Pallante has a 4.18 ERA and 1.339 WHIP in 10 starts. He’s carrying reverse splits, with left-handers hitting .232/.281/.420 and right-handers batting .279/.353/.442. It isn’t an aberration. Left-handers hit .229/.288/.341 against him in 148 games, and right-handers hit .293/.372/.423.
Pallante has made two career appearances against the Orioles, both in relief, and allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings. Both runs scored over 1 2/3 innings in a Sept. 11, 2023 game at Camden Yards.
Mullins and Henderson have homered in their only at-bat against him. Mullins hit a grand slam in the fifth inning after Pallante replaced Dakota Hudson with the bases loaded.
The Cardinals are hitting .270 against right-handers this season, the highest average in the majors.
