Dwight Smith Jr. is the designated hitter tonight. Chris Davis is at first base and Austin Hays is in center field.
Left-hander John Means has allowed two earned runs or fewer in his last four starts over 25 2/3 innings. None of the Dodgers have faced him.
Alberto’s 43 strikeouts this season are the fewest in the majors among players with a minimum of 450 at-bats. His 11.26 plate appearances per strikeout ratio is the highest among qualified players and is the highest by an Orioles player since Deivi Cruz (11.67) in 2003.
The Orioles have allowed multiple home runs in 72 games, including 42 at home. They’ve lost the last 25 games at Camden Yards when surrendering three or more.
The Orioles have given up a league-leading 103 runs in the first inning. Their 6.75 ERA in the first inning is the third-highest in club history behind the 2008 Orioles (6.76 ERA) and 1991 team (7.06 ERA).
Right-hander Ross Stripling is making his 14th start among 29 appearances. He’s 4-4 with a 3.42 ERA and 1.139 WHIP in 81 2/3 innings.
Stripling was absent from the Dodgers roster last month because of a biceps injury. He’s been limited to 31 and 36 pitches in his two September outings.
Tonight marks Stripling’s first start against the Orioles. Pedro Severino and Mason Williams each have one plate appearance against him.
The Oriole Advocates will honor reliever Mychal Givens, who’s the recipient of the 2019 “Oriole Way Award” that’s presented to the player who’s made significant contributions on and off the field.
