Robinson Chirinos is catching this afternoon and Ryan Mountcastle is the designated hitter, as the Orioles continue their series against the Guardians at sunny Camden Yards.
Adley Rutschman is counted among the reserves.
Tyler Nevin joins him, with Ramón Urías back at third base.
First baseman Trey Mancini has reached safely in 26 of his last 27 games since May 8 and is 41-for-115 (.365) since May 1.
Austin Hays’ hitting streak ended last night at 13 games.
Tyler Wells has made 10 starts and posted a 3.71 ERA and 1.076 WHIP with only five home runs surrendered in 43 2/3 innings. He tossed six scoreless innings with two hits in his last start in Boston.
Wells made two relief appearances against Cleveland last year and didn’t allow a run in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out four.
Orioles relievers have a 3.18 ERA.
Triston McKenzie, the 42nd-overall pick in the 2015 draft, has registered a 2.65 ERA and 0.863 WHIP in nine games (eight starts). He allowed eight runs and 18 hits last month in 34 innings.
McKenzie has never faced the Orioles.
Cleveland is 15-7 against the Orioles since 2018.
Last night’s game marked the first time in Cleveland baseball history that the team struck out once or not at all while the opponent struck out 15 times or more.
