The Orioles have lost pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne on a waiver claim by the Marlins.
Despaigne was placed on waivers a few days ago, after the Orioles were unable to complete a trade. They designated him for assignment on Sept. 5.

Despaigne was 0-2 with a 5.60 ERA in 16 relief appearance with the Orioles, who acquired him from the Padres in February for short-season Single-A Aberdeen pitcher Jean Cosme. Despaigne averaged 4.9 walks per nine innings, an issue that kept him from cracking the rotation or making a bigger contribution.

Nolan Reimold and Drew Stubbs are manning the corner outfield spots tonight in the series opener against the Rays, who are starting rookie left-hander Blake Snell.
Jonathan Schoop is batting second. Mark Trumbo is batting fourth as the designated hitter.
According to Inside Edge, Orioles hitters have come to the plate with runners in scoring position only 21.4 percent of the time, the fewest in the majors. The league average is 24.9 percent. However, the Orioles rank fifth in the American League with a .269 batting average with RISP.
Yovani Gallardo has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts. He’s working on eight days rest tonight.
Gallardo is 2-4 with a 6.61 ERA in 10 starts against the American League East.
