The Orioles are 2 ½ games out of the last wild card spot, but they moved ahead of the Twins without playing last night and begin another important series against the White Sox at Camden Yards.
Chicago is four back in the wild card race.
No moves were made today to alter the Orioles’ active roster. All they did was reinstate infielder Jonathan Araúz from the 10-day injured list and option him to Triple-A Norfolk.
If shortstop Gunnar Henderson is making his major league debut this week, it won’t happen tonight.
Terrin Vavra is batting fifth and playing second base. Rougned Odor is at third base.
Kyle Stowers gets the start in right field.
Jorge Mateo is 23-for-68 (.338) this month with five doubles, a triple, four home runs, 16 RBIs and a 1.010 OPS in 19 games.
Adley Rutschman is slashing .324/.450/.539 in his last 30 games.
Austin Voth has a 2.81 ERA and 1.125 WHIP in 14 games (10 starts) with the Orioles. He started against the White Sox on June 24 while on a shortened pitch count – his only career appearance against them – and allowed one run in three innings.
White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease is 12-5 with a 2.09 ERA, 1.167 WHIP and only 11 home runs surrendered in 133 2/3 innings over 24 starts. He’s 3.9 walks and 12.0 strikeouts per nine innings.
The Orioles were held to one run in seven innings and struck out 13 times against Cease in a June 26 game in Chicago. They drew one walk.
That was the only loss in a four-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Pitcher Carson King retired.
