Masahiro Tanaka has registered a career-high 4.78 ERA and 1.279 WHIP in 22 starts. The numbers inflated in a July 25 start in Boston, where he allowed 12 runs and 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Tanaka has faced the Orioles twice this season and allowed two earned runs in 11 2/3 innings.
In 14 career starts against the Orioles, Tanaka has gone 5-3 with a 3.44 ERA and 1.169 WHIP and struck out 94 batters in 89 innings.
Trey Mancini is 6-for-20 with a double and home run against Tanaka.
The Yankees are coming off a four-game sweep of the Red Sox, but they’re banged up again. Gleyber Torres is in Baltimore, but he left last night’s game with a core injury.
Torres is 20-for-43 (.465) in 12 games against the Orioles this season with three doubles and 10 home runs.
