From MASN production meetings to Buck Showalter’s pregame press conference to batting practice to play-by-play in the broadcast booth, there is so much that goes on before each and every Orioles game. MASN and the Orioles invited Baltimore City Public School students from the Leadership in Media Production program to see the entire process from start to finish.
The BCPS summer program enhances the school’s curriculum and allows the students to focus on broadcasting and journalism. A group of eight students, along with two of their teachers, was able to learn about behind-the-scenes production at Camden Yards by doing hands-on work and showcasing what they have learned in their classes.
The highlight of student Tibreya Braxton’s day was “being in the middle of the media, because it’s something that I’ve never experienced before.”
Braxton was even able to ask Showalter a question during his pregame meeting with the media.
Armed with microphones, cameras and more, the students also shot footage and interviews of Adam Jones, watched “O’s Xtra,” checked out the broadcast from MASN’s production truck and so much more!
“The best part of the day (was) just getting a tour of the whole building and just meeting the people that work here,” student Ricardo Amparo said.
For more from the students’ day, check out these photos and the accompanying video, which was shot by Julia Morris.
