Orioles option Adams, tonight's lineup and notes

The Orioles optioned outfielder Jordyn Adams earlier today to make room for Daniel Johnson, a waiver claim yesterday from the Giants.

Johnson had one at-bat with the Orioles in 2024. He was 5-for-29 with the Giants this season.

Adams is 0-for-5 in 10 games with the Orioles and was used more for defense.

Albert Suárez is making his first injury rehab start tonight with Double-A Chesapeake. He hasn’t pitched for the Orioles since his lone appearance on March 28 in Toronto.

Johnson isn’t in tonight’s lineup against the Mariners at Camden Yards. Ryan Noda is in right field, Dylan Carlson in left and Greg Allen in center. Carlson is trying to snap an 0-for-35 streak.

Coby Mayo is at first base. Ryan Mountcastle is the designated hitter.

Dean Kremer is making his 24th appearance and 23rd start, and he’s carrying a 4.35 ERA and 1.277 WHIP in 132 1/3 innings. He’s completed six innings in four of his last five starts and five of seven. He’s completed seven innings on six occasions.

Kremer’s made five career starts against the Mariners and posted a 2.57 ERA and 0.893 in 28 innings. He’s allowed eight runs and 17 hits.

Josh Naylor is 6-for-9 with a double and home run against Kremer. Julio Rodríguez is 5-for-8 with a double and home run. Mitch Garver is 3-for-6 with two doubles and a home run.

J.P. Crawford is 1-for-12 with a homer.

Kremer is 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA and 1.018 WHIP in nine home games and 3-6 with a 5.42 ERA and 1.467 WHIP in 14 road games.

The Orioles have won 11 of their last 15 games against the Mariners dating back to 2023, claiming all five series. Per STATS, that’s tied for their second-longest series streak behind the White Sox (seven).

The Orioles, Mariners, Guardians and Rays are tied since July for most one-run games in the American League with 13. Seattle is 9-4, and the Orioles are 6-7.

Seattle has 25 wins by one run this season, tied with the Padres for most in the majors.

Right-hander George Kirby has a 4.04 ERA and 1.128 WHIP in 14 starts. He’s walked 20 batters, struck out 83 and surrendered nine home runs in 78 innings.

Over his last three starts, he’s allowed four runs in 18 innings and struck out 24. He’s completed the sixth inning in eight of his last 11 outings.

Kirby faced the Orioles on June 3 and allowed two runs and eight hits in five innings in a 5-1 loss. Gunnar Henderson is 6-for-13 with a double and home run against Kirby.

Seattle is 9-2 in Kirby’s last 11 starts.

Catcher Cal Raleigh leads the majors with 45 home runs and 98 RBIs.

The Mariners have won seven in a row and nine of 10. They’re 37-25 at home and 29-28 on the road. The Orioles swept them in a three-game series in June at T-Mobile Park.
