The Orioles couldn’t make it through the night without another roster move.
The club announced that it optioned pitcher Josh Stinson to Triple-A Norfolk. A corresponding move will be announced on Friday.
Stinson, 25, didn’t appear in a game after being recalled yesterday afternoon as the bullpen replacement for Kevin Gausman. He had one previous stint with the Orioles this season, allowing five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in an April 24 start against the Blue Jays.

Stinson, 25, didn’t appear in a game after being recalled yesterday afternoon as the bullpen replacement for Kevin Gausman. He had one previous stint with the Orioles this season, allowing five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in an April 24 start against the Blue Jays.
The Orioles chose to recall Stinson yesterday so he could serve in long relief behind left-hander Wei-Yin Chen. They’re sending right-handers Chris Tillman, Jason Hammel and Scott Feldman to the mound for the series against the Blue Jays that wraps up the first half.
Left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada isn’t an option to join the Orioles after starting today for Norfolk. Left-hander Mike Belfiore, also on the 40-man roster, may not be available after pitching two innings last night.
The other possibility would be to add a bench player while Chris Dickerson is sidelined with a sore left shoulder. He received a cortisone injection this afternoon and will attempt to throw and hit off a tee before Friday’s game.
“As it was explained to me, it’s already made significant progress the day after,” Dickerson said. “How it felt today compared to yesterday I don’t think there will be much of an issue.”
Update: I’m told that, since Dickerson’s shoulder is feeling better, the Orioles will most likely replace Stinson with another reliever. We’ll see.
