The Orioles continue their charitable endeavors with the announcement of a $300,000 pledge to local charities in support of their Birdland Community Heroes program. This pledge will include a combined donation of $100,000 from the Orioles Charitable Foundation to the 2018 season’s Birdland Community Heroes’ related charities and another $200,000 to the charities of those Heroes honored in previous seasons.
Since the program’s launch during the 2016 regular season, the Orioles have honored 80 community heroes at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. These members of the extended Orioles community are honored for their passion for volunteerism and their leadership in inspiring others to serve.

Dr. Lori Edwards, president of the board for the Julie Community Center and previous honoree recognized for her leadership in Baltimore City’s public health community, will be representing all Birdland Heroes at opening day on Thursday, March 29, and will be joining “MASN All Access” to talk about the positive impact of the Birdland Community Heroes program. And, during a special opening day pregame ceremony, nearly 60 previous Birdland Community Heroes will participate in an on-field ceremony recognizing their contributions and dedication to the Birdland community and call attention to the various causes they aid.
Orioles Executive Vice President John Angelos will present the group of previous honorees with a $200,000 check, and the money will be evenly distributed among the 2016-2017 Birdland Community Heroes’ associated charities.
“Every community cause needs a hero advocating for it, and every heroic advocate needs support in bringing attention to his or her dedicated vision,” Angelos said. “All of us in the Orioles organization are privileged to direct our platforms, games, resources, and the American musical tradition of our seventh-inning stretch to honor those heroes who work tirelessly and selflessly among us to help their local communities in need.”

The Orioles will continue to recognize Birdland Community Heroes in the 2018 season during every Friday, Saturday and Sunday home game at Oriole Park beginning on Saturday, March 31, with Lt. Col. Jason Pasley as the first honoree. Pasley will be honored for bringing the “Stop the Bleed” campaign to Baltimore City, inspiring the local community to aid in providing immediate care to those with life-threatening bleeding. Pasley has been deployed twice as the trauma director at the largest Air Force hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan. Locally, he works as a trauma surgeon at the R.A. Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
