WASHINGTON – The Orioles tweaked their troubled bullpen this morning by recalling right-hander Cameron Foster from Triple-A Norfolk and optioning left-hander Josh Walker.
Walker was sent down after yesterday’s game, when he allowed a two-run homer to Brady House in the eighth inning. Walker had two scoreless appearances before yesterday.
Foster has appeared in five games with the Orioles and allowed five earned runs (six total) and 12 hits with six walks and nine strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.
Three relievers combined yesterday to surrender nine runs in a 13-3 loss.
The Orioles will try to avoid being swept in D.C. today before flying to Tampa to continue their road trip.
Brandon Young is making his sixth start after posting a 4.15 ERA and 1.385 WHIP in 26 innings. He’s pitched twice this month, allowing three runs and four hits in six innings in Miami and two runs and three hits in 5 1/3 against the Yankees.
Young has never faced the Nationals.
Samuel Basallo is hitting .421 and slugging .632 when he’s ahead in the count this season.
Left-hander Richard Lovelady will serve as an opener ahead of right-hander Miles Mikolas.
Mikolas will make his 10th appearance after posting a 7.00 ERA and 1.528 WHIP in 36 innings. He’s started three times and allowed a combined six earned runs and seven total in 12 2/3 innings.
Mikolas’ worst outing came April 3 against the Dodgers, when he allowed 11 runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings in D.C. He tossed four scoreless relief innings against the Giants on April 19 after PJ Poulin faced four batters.
In three career starts against the Orioles, Mikolas has registered a 4.41 ERA in 16 1/3 innings. Pete Alonso is 4-for-20 with a double and triple.
Mikolas is allowing 2.25 home runs per nine innings this season after allowing 1.67 in 2025.
The Orioles went 9-3 against the Nationals from 2022-24 but are 1-7 since the beginning of last season.
The Orioles haven’t posted their lineup.
