NEW YORK – The Orioles found another fresh arm for their bullpen today, recalling left-hander Tanner Scott from Triple-A Norfolk and optioning pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis to the Tides before today’s series finale against the Yankees.
Yacabonis was recalled yesterday and allowed three runs in the seventh inning.
Scott worked two scoreless innings on Friday, which eliminated him from consideration yesterday. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two in Norfolk’s season-opening game against Gwinnett.
The bullpen is carrying three left-handers, including Richard Bleier and Rule 5 pick Nestor Cortes Jr. Bleier has pitched the last two days and Cortes was used yesterday.
The Orioles still are in recovery mode following Friday night’s 14-inning game.
Scott was supposed to be used as a starter at Norfolk, but the Orioles reversed course and decided to keep him in a relief role. Yacabonis, meanwhile, is trying to transition to a starter in the minors.
The Orioles will proceed with a three-man bench after putting outfielder Colby Rasmus on the 10-day disabled list yesterday with a left hip flexor strain.
