The Orioles selected the contract of reliever Rico Garcia this morning and optioned left-hander Bruce Zimmermann to Triple-A Norfolk.

Zimmermann threw a scoreless relief inning yesterday.

Reliever Travis Lakins Sr. was transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room for Garcia on the 40-man roster.

Also, reliever Marcos Diplán cleared outright waivers and was assigned to Norfolk.

Garcia, who’s wearing No. 63, has made two appearances with the Orioles as a replacement player in Toronto and allowed one run in three innings.

Can the Orioles make it eight wins in a row for the first time since April 22-May 1, 2005? And move one game below .500 for the first time since their opening day loss?

They’ll try for back-to-back sweeps today while closing out their series against the Angels. They’re 12-11-4 in series this year.

A win today would give the Orioles their first four-game sweep since July 17-20, 2017 against the Rangers.

They’ve gone 8-4-2 in home series after going 5-15-6 in 2021.

The Orioles posted their eighth shutout yesterday, and third when held to one run. They had five shutouts last season.

The seven straight wins are by a combined 10 runs, the smallest run differential by any team since 2008 and by the Orioles since 1958, per ESPN Stats and Info.

Anthony Santander has recorded four multi-hit games in his last six, going 8-for-24 with a .385 on-base percentage and .417 slugging percentage.

Trey Mancini is 10-for-33 during an eight-game hitting streak.

Austin Voth stays in the rotation to make his fifth start and eighth appearance. He’s been extended to 4 1/3 innings and 65 pitches.

The Angels are starting left-hander José Suarez, who’s made seven starts among nine appearances and registered a 4.30 ERA and 1.540 WHIP with 38 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings.

Suarez started against the Orioles on April 24 and allowed three runs and four hits with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Mancini hit his first homer, a three-run shot.

This was the Chris Ellis game, when he didn’t retire a batter and was charged with five runs.

Kyle Bradish made his first rehab start last night with Double-A Bowie and retired all nine Somerset batters with five strikeouts.
