WASHINGTON – The Orioles made a move today to improve their outfield depth while Dylan Beavers sits on the injured list.

A source confirmed that Tommy Pham agreed to terms on a minor league contract. An opt-out clause is included in early June if he isn’t on the major league roster.

Pham, 38, has played for 10 teams in 13 seasons, most recently appearing in nine games with the Mets this year and going 0-for-13 with seven strikeouts. He became a free agent on April 29 after declining an outright assignment.

The Mets designated Pham to make room for former Orioles outfielder Austin Slater.

The career journey for Pham began with the Cardinals in 2014. They drafted him in the 16th round in ’06 out of Durango High School in Las Vegas. He finished 11th in Most Valuable Player voting in the National League in ’17.

Pham bounced to the Rays, Padres, Reds, Red Sox, Mets, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Cardinals again, Royals, Pirates and Mets again. He’s a career .256/.344/.421 hitter with 149 home runs and an 18.5 bWAR. The right-handed hitter appeared in 120 games with Pittsburgh in 2025 and slashed .245/.330/.370 with 17 doubles, a triple, 10 homers and 52 RBIs in 449 plate appearances.

The Mets signed Pham to a minor league contract on March 26.

Joining the Orioles would make Pham the 24th player to play for 11 different major league teams. He’d be the ninth position player, as noted by MLBTradeRumors.com.

Beavers is on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain, which could lead to an extended absence. Heston Kjerstad is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk after straining his hamstring late in spring training. Outfielder Reed Trimble has missed the last two Tides games with a sore hamstring.

The Orioles didn’t make a roster move yesterday and are carrying three catchers.

Asked about the possibility of adding another player, president of baseball operations Mike Elias said, “We’re talking about it.”

“We’re looking at things internally and externally on that front, and it’s possible we switch up the roster composition as we go along here with Dylan’s outage,” he said. “But certainly that’s something that we’re gonna feel and another bit of injury adversity we’re gonna have to work through here for the next couple few weeks. Hopefully, it’s on the sooner side with him, but we’ll see.”

ESPN first reported the Pham deal.
