The Orioles will host award-winning American composer John Williams as a special guest on Monday, June 11, for the club’s 7:05 p.m. ET game against the Boston Red Sox. Williams, one of the most accomplished composers in American history and a lifelong baseball fan, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game, as the Orioles celebrate his illustrious five-decade career in the performing arts.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy a pregame selection of Williams’ famous scores performed by members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s brass and percussion sections and led by Music Director Marin Alsop, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Select members of the BSO will later accompany the Stevensville Middle School choir for the national anthem. Throughout the game, the Orioles will incorporate Williams’ music to recognize the contributions of one of America’s greatest living composers.
For more than 50 years, Williams has composed scores and served as music director for many of Hollywood’s most critically-acclaimed and top-grossing films, including E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, several Harry Potter films, the Indiana Jones series, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, the Star Wars films, and many more. He has received five Academy Awards and 51 Oscar nominations, making him the Academy’s most-nominated living person and the second-most nominated person in the history of the Oscars. Williams has also won 24 Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards.
Williams will team up with Alsop to lead the BSO on Wednesday, June 13, for An Evening with John Williams at 8 p.m. at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. For more information, please visit www.BSOmusic.org.
