CHICAGO – The infield depth at the higher levels of the minor league system cost Patrick Dorrian a place in the Orioles organization.
Dorrian, on Triple-A Norfolk’s roster, was traded to the Brewers this afternoon for cash considerations.
The Orioles acquired Dorrian from the Pirates on June 26, 2019 to complete the May 27 trade of pitcher Yefry Ramirez.
Dorrian, who turns 26 on Sunday, batted .161/.256/.269 with seven doubles and three home runs in 46 games with Norfolk. He was sent down briefly to Double-A Bowie, went 0-for-4, and returned to the Tides.
The 2021 season got Dorrian noticed after he collected 21 doubles, 22 home runs and 67 RBIs and posted a .362 on-base percentage in 112 games with the Baysox. But prospects Gunnar Henderson and Jordan Westburg have moved up to Norfolk, Terrin Vavra returned from the injured list, and infielder Jonathan Araúz was optioned to the Tides after the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Red Sox.
Dean Kremer will try tonight to continue his resurgence in the Orioles rotation in the first of four games against the White Sox.
Kremer has allowed only four earned runs in 15 1/3 innings. He shut out the Rays over six innings in his most recent start to lower his ERA to 2.35.
This is Kremer’s first career start against the White Sox.
Austin Hays became the sixth Orioles player to hit for the cycle last night in a 7-0 six-inning win over the Nationals.
Anthony Santander leads the Orioles with 13 home runs, including four in his last seven games. He’s 10-for-28 during that span.
Trey Mancini leads the club with 20 multi-hit games.
Left-hander Nick Vespi earned his first career save last night.
The Orioles have six shutouts in 2022.
Johnny Cueto, in his 15th season in the majors and first with Chicago, has a 2.95 ERA and 1.102 WHIP in seven appearances. He’s surrendered only four home runs in 42 2/3 innings.
Cueto registered his first victory in his last outing, shutting out the Astros on two hits over seven innings. His fifth quality start.
In three career starts against the Orioles, Cueto is 0-2 with 16 earned runs (17 total) and 27 hits in 18 innings.
The White Sox are in third place in the American League Central with a 33-34 record. They’re 15-18 at home.
Their 4.17 ERA ranks 21st in the majors, followed by the Orioles at 4.21. The Orioles are seventh in bullpen ERA at 3.18, while the White Sox are 22nd at 4.29.
Yoán Moncada went on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right hamstring strain. Tim Anderson was activated on the same day.
The Orioles lost all seven games to the White Sox last summer, including four in Chicago.
