The Orioles are bouncing from buyer to seller as the deadline nears. They made a move tonight to subtract one of their starters.

A source confirmed that Dean Kremer was traded to the Twins shortly after the Orioles’ 6-4 win over the Phillies at Camden Yards. The return is 18-year-old Single-A outfielder Jhomnardo Reyes, per a source.

This one counts as a sell.

Neither team has announced the deal.

Kremer was lined up to start Tuesday against the Angels in the continuation of the latest homestand. Chris Bassitt made his first injury rehab start this week with Triple-A Norfolk and will stay down for one or two more games. Trey Gibson started tonight and isn’t an option until later next week. Left-hander Cade Povich also is with the Tides.

The off-day allows the Orioles to skip the turn. They don’t need a replacement until Aug. 8.

Of course, the Orioles could trade for another starter. But they’re also receiving heavy interest in lefty Trevor Rogers, a pending free agent who’s a possibility to be moved.

Former executive Dan Duquette acquired Kremer and four other players from the Dodgers for Manny Machado in July 2018. Kremer was the last remaining player in the organization.

Kremer led the Orioles with 171 2/3 innings last season. He was optioned this year on the final day of spring training to create room in the rotation for Zach Eflin, who underwent Tommy John surgery after one start.

The Orioles recalled Kremer for an April 13 start. He pitched twice and went on the injured list with a strained quadriceps, missing about 2 ½ months before returning on July 1.

Kremer had a 4.15 ERA until allowing six runs in six innings in Boston and eight runs in four innings in Detroit. He leaves the Orioles with a 6.50 ERA and 1.361 WHIP in seven starts covering 36 innings, and a 4.37 ERA in 133 career games.

The sides could meet again next month. The Orioles travel to Minnesota for a three-game series Aug. 10-12.

Reyes was the No. 12 prospect in the Twins system per Baseball America and 24th in MLB Pipeline rankings. He appeared in 49 games in the Florida Complex League this year and slashed .296/.409/.541 with 12 doubles, three triples, seven homers and 44 RBIs. He stole 14 bases but was thrown out 12 times.

The Twins moved him up to Single-A Fort Myers and he went 2-for-19.

Reyes is a left-handed hitter from the Dominican Republic who received a $322,500 bonus in the 2025 international draft class. He can play all three outfield spots but projects in right.

The Athletic first reported that Kremer was headed to the Twins.
