The Orioles will add two pitchers to their roster for Friday’s doubleheader against the Rays at Camden Yards.
Kevin Gausman will come off the taxi squad to pitch Game 1, and reliever Evan Meek will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to provide another arm in the bullpen.
Meek was spotted tonight at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (or BWI, to keep it simple), and I got it confirmed. He’s in town.

Meek was spotted tonight at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (or BWI, to keep it simple), and I got it confirmed. He’s in town.
Starter Bud Norris will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, with a strained right groin. He underwent an MRI today that revealed the injury.
Meek is 2-0 with a 2.79 ERA in 17 appearances with Norfolk. He hasn’t pitched since Monday.
Meek hasn’t permitted a run in his last nine outings over 9 2/3 innings. Over that span, he’s gone 1-0
with three saves and a .156 opponents’ average against (5-for-32). Fourteen of his 17 outings with the Tides have been scoreless, and he’s walked one and struck out 17 in 19 1/3 innings.
Fresh arm, hot stretch.
The Orioles most recently optioned Meek to Norfolk on June 8 while activating reliever Tommy Hunter from the disabled list.
Manager Buck Showalter used six relievers in Wednesday night’s 5-4, 12-inning win over the White Sox, but he indicated that the off-day likely would allow the Orioles to avoid making a move.
So much for that idea.
Meek could be the 26th man for the doubleheader or he could be replacing Norris on the roster. Let’s find out together in the morning.
