ST. PETERBURG, Fla. – Orioles manager Buck Showalter is starting Steve Pearce in left field and Mark Trumbo in right tonight against Rays right-hander Jake Odorizzi.
Pedro Alvarez is batting second again as the designated hitter.
The Rays fired hitting coach Derek Shelton and promoted minor league hitting coordinator Chad Mottola, who appeared in six games with the Orioles in 2004. Mottola will join the Rays on Friday.

Jones is the Orioles’ nominee for the 2016 Roberto Clemente Award.
Each club nominates one current player to be considered for the award, which serves as a tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character. The 15th annual Roberto Clemente Day will be held on Wednesday.
The Orioles will present Jones with his award on Sept. 15 during an on-field ceremony prior to their game against the Rays.
Beginning on Wednesday, fans can participate in the process of selecting the winner of the Roberto Clemente Award on social media for the first time by posting voting hashtags to Twitter and Facebook. Orioles fans can vote for Jones by using #VoteAdam.
Single-A Delmarva outfielder Cedric Mullins was named South Atlantic League Player of the week after batting 433/.433/.833 (13-for-30) with three doubles, three home runs, seven RBIs, seven runs scored and three stolen bases. He struck out once in seven games.
