Alex Cobb is still looking for his first win as an Oriole, going 0-5 with a 7.06 ERA and 1.875 WHIP in six starts over 29 1/3 innings. His debut came against the Red Sox on April 14 at Fenway Park, when he allowed seven earned runs (eight total) and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Hanley Ramirez and J.D. Martinez homered.
Cobb is 6-5 with a 4.02 ERA and 1.329 WHIP in 15 career starts against the Red Sox and 5-2 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.511 WHIP in eight starts in Boston, where the Orioles have lost seven straight games.
Christian Vázquez is 8-for-11 lifetime against Cobb. Martinez is 6-for-10 with two doubles and a home run. Ramirez is 5-for-14 with a double and home run.
Left-handers are hitting .200 against Drew Pomeranz in his five starts this season and right-handers are hitting .312. He’s 2-3 with a 3.34 ERA and 1.146 WHIP in eight games (five starts) versus the Orioles.
Adam Jones is 3-for-16 with a double against Pomeranz. Davis is 3-for-14 with seven strikeouts. Manny Machado is 3-for-14 with a double and home run.
Jones’ 11-game hitting streak ended last night.
Susac’s double last night was his first in the majors since Sept. 23, 2016 versus the Reds.
Jonathan Schoop is batting .338 (27-for-80) in 21 games against the Red Sox since the beginning of the 2017 season and .395 (17-for-43) in 11 games at Fenway Park.
Danny Valencia is batting .421 (16-for-38) in his last 12 games. Last night marked his first multi-hit game on the road since Aug. 28, 2017 against the Orioles.
Closer Zach Britton threw batting practice again today, followed by fielding drills, and will pitch a one-inning simulated game in Chicago early next week.
The Orioles are 4-2 on Fridays for their only winning record in the week. They’re 5-10 against left-handed starters.
