The Orioles close out the first half of the season – as dictated by the All-Star break, not the number of games played – with a weekend series against the Yankees at Camden Yards.
Brian Roberts makes his first appearance in Baltimore since leaving as a free agent. He’s collected five hits in 16 at-bats against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium.
Miguel Gonzalez is 2-2 with a 4.07 ERA in eight career starts against the Yankees. Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda is 3-3 with a 3.14 ERA in eight career starts against the Orioles, but 0-2 with a 10.13 ERA in two starts at Camden Yards, with nine runs and 15 hits allowed in eight innings. He’s surrendered five home runs.
Kuroda beat the Orioles twice this season at Yankee Stadium, allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings on April 7 and two runs in six innings on June 20.
Nick Marakakis is 8-for-25 (.320) with two doubles and a home run against Kuroda. Chris Davis is 7-for-26 (.269) with two doubles, two home runs and nine strikeouts, and Manny Machado is 5-for-20 (.250) with a double and two home runs.
J.J. Hardy is 3-for-27 (.111) with a double and home run. Nelson Cruz is 3-for-19 (.158). Ryan Flaherty is 1-for-12 (.083) with a home run.
