The Orioles now have 10 days to trade, release or waive Reimold. Should Reimold pass through waivers, which isn’t expected to happen, he would have to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.

Reimold, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, following corrective surgery to fuse to vertebrae in his neck….The Orioles made the expected move this afternoon, reinstating outfielder Nolan Reimold from the 60-day disabled list and designating him for assignment.

Reimold, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, following corrective surgery to fuse to vertebrae in his neck. He was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 7.

Discussions have been ongoing in the warehouse to keep Reimold in the organization. They’d rather not risk losing him to a waiver claim.

The Orioles also have checked the trade market for Reimold, a second-round selection in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Bowling Green University.

Reimold played in only 40 games last season due to a hamstring injury and the corrective procedure. He batted .313 with six doubles, five homers and 10 RBIs in 16 games in 2012 before suffering a herniated disk in his neck – an injury believed to be caused by his tumble into the seats at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.

Reimold completed his injury rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie over the weekend, posting a .315 average with three doubles, two homers and nine RBIs in 17 games.

With Nelson Cruz, Steve Pearce and Delmon Young on the current roster, the Orioles simply cannot find room for Reimold as a right-handed hitting corner outfielder and designated hitter.

During a recent interview with MASNsports.com, Reimold talked about his improved physical condition and desire to remain with the Orioles.

“I feel like I’ve come a long way and have progressed a lot and I’m ready to get started,” he said. “I’ve been playing the outfield and I feel a lot better. I haven’t had any problems with my neck and I feel a lot more comfortable at the plate too.

“If you ask me, the way I looked last year at spring training to the way I’m playing now, you can see I’ve come a long way. Back then I don’t think was really indicative of where I was going to end up.

“If they don’t want me enough to keep me here and somebody else wants me more, I’d go there. I’d prefer to stay in Baltimore. That’s where I started. That’s where I want to be. But if they put me on waivers, I’ll do what I have to do.”
