The exception came on Aug. 9 in Anaheim, when Gausman permitted four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings in a 5-1 loss. He has a 5.11 ERA and 1.459 WHIP in four career starts against the Angels.
The current group is 4-for-21 against him. Tim Beckham is 2-for-10 with four strikeouts.
J.C. Ramirez faced the Orioles on Aug. 7 and allowed six runs and eight hits in seven innings. Manny Machado hit the first of his three grand slams in a span of 11 games.
Machado is batting .343/.373/.607 with 11 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 34 RBIs in 34 games since the All-Star break.
Machado is 31-for-99 (.313) with eight doubles, a triple, six home runs and 23 RBIs this season against the American League West.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Machado is the 13th player in major league history to hit three home runs in a game, with the finale on a walk-off.
Also according to Elias, Machado is the 10th player in major league history and the first Oriole with three grand slams in one calendar month. The last player was the Mets’ Carlos Beltran in July 2006.
The Orioles are two games back for the second wild card.
Shortstop J.J. Hardy is celebrating his 35th birthday.
The Orioles continue to list Sunday’s starter as TBD. It’s likely to be Chris Tillman if he isn’t used in relief tonight.
