According to the Elias Sports Bureau, last night marked just the third time since RBIs became an official statistic in 1920 that the Orioles won a game 2-0 or 2-1 with their eighth and ninth batters in the lineup driving in runs. Schoop and Hardy had RBIs in a 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays.
On April 6, 1992, Chris Hoiles and Billy Ripken had RBIs in a 2-0 win over the Indians in the first game at Camden Yards. On April 12, 2014, Schoop and David Lough drove in the runs in a 2-1 home win over the Blue Jays.
On this date in 1954, the Orioles won their first-ever game, 3-2 in Detroit.
Duane Pillette went the distance and the Orioles scored all three runs in the first inning. Second baseman Bobby Young, a Maryland native, doubled and scored the club’s first run on an RBI single by center fielder Gil Coan.
