The Indians are starting Mike Clevinger, the first of three right-handers the Orioles will face in the series. The southpaw streak will need to resume in another city.
Clevinger is making his fourth appearance of the season after allowing five runs and five hits with 29 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings. He went on the injured list with a back strain after an April 7 start and returned to pitch on June 17, when he allowed all five runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Rangers. He returned to the IL with a sprained left ankle.
Clevinger is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 1.167 WHIP in five career starts against the Orioles. He’s allowed six runs in 30 innings – including only one home run.
Mancini is 2-for-9 against Clevinger and Chris Davis is 2-for-8 with a double and two walks. Davis is batting eighth tonight.
Tonight marks the 81st game of the season for the Orioles (22-58), putting them at the halfway point of the schedule. They were 23-58 last season through 81 games.
