Jace Peterson inherited the leadoff spot tonight for the Orioles as they try to salvage a game of their series against the Nationals.

Max Scherzer is 5-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.052 WHIP in 10 career starts against the Orioles. He’s struck out 85 batters in 70 1/3 innings. In five starts at Camden Yards, Scherzer is 2-0 with a 3.68 ERA and 0.900 WHIP with 42 strikeouts and eight home runs surrendered over 36 2/3 innings.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner allowed two runs or fewer in his first 10 starts this season before the Marlins scored four runs over six innings Friday night in Miami.
Scherzer has held right-handers to a .199 average over his career. Left-handers have registered a .246 average.
Davis is 9-for-27 with a double and home run lifetime against Scherzer. Adam Jones is 13-for-32 (.406) with three doubles and four home runs against Scherzer, but Manny Machado is 1-for-22 with a home run and 11 strikeouts and Mark Trumbo 1-for-14 with eight strikeouts.
Catcher Chance Sisco and designated hitter Pedro Ãlvarez are listed on this year’s All-Star ballot, as presented today by Major League Baseball.
Jones, Trumbo and Trey Mancini are included among the outfielders. Tim Beckham is listed among the third baseman. Machado is at shortstop, Jonathan Schoop at second base and Davis at first base.
