Gausman began an earlier throwing program in the offseason while attempting a fix.

“You go through periods where you’re just trying to figure out what works the best,” manager Buck Showalter said. “It’s really your first full major league season, and you have a whole different feel for preparation and what has to happen. It is a game of adjustments and those are some of the things you have to adjust.

“You can’t put a blanket over them and have them all do it same way. I think he’s got a pretty good feel for what works and what doesn’t for him.”
