Jimenez ranks third among active pitchers from the Dominican behind Ervin Santana (1,563) and Bartolo Colon (2,228).
The Orioles are 2-3 on their road trip, which concludes tonight. They’re batting .238, their starters have posted a 5.96 ERA in 22 2/3 innings and their bullpen has registered a 4.19 ERA in 19 1/3 innings. The defense has committed five errors, but the Orioles continue to lead the American League and rank second in the majors with a .988 fielding percentage.
The Orioles are one game behind the Rays for third place in the American League East and one game ahead of the last-place Red Sox. They’re 7 1/2 back for the second wild card, with five teams in front of them.
The organization named David Hess, 22, as its minor league Pitcher of the Month for August. He won the same honor in July.
Hess, promoted to Double-A Bowie on Sept. 1, was 4-0 with a 0.99 ERA in five starts in August for Single-A Frederick, allowing three earned runs in 27 1/3 innings. He held opponents to a .186 average. Hess was 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA in six starts in July.
Double-A Bowie first baseman Trey Mancini won the Eastern League batting title with a .330 average. He’s the first Bowie player to earn the honor since Lou Montanez in 2008.
Mancini finished the season batting .359 (117-for-326), but he was 29 plate appearances shy of the 383 needed to qualify for the award. Per Rule 9.22(a), Mancini took an 0-for-29 to reach the required number of plate appearances.
