The Orioles loosened the catching logjam at Triple-A Norfolk.

Andrew Susac has been traded to the Royals for cash considerations, with the announcement coming from both clubs.

Chance Sisco and Carlos Pérez remain with the Tides and Austin Wynns is at extended spring training while recovering from a strained oblique. Norfolk didn’t need a third catcher on the active roster.

The Orioles have been seeking a trade partner for Susac or Pérez. Sisco is going to get most of the starts at Norfolk.

susac-andrew-catching-white-spring-sidebar.jpgSusac was a late cut in camp, with the Orioles claiming Pedro Severino off waivers from the Nationals and taking him north with Jesús Sucre. Susac went 6-for-23 with two doubles, a home run, four walks and 10 strikeouts in 15 games.

Injuries have interrupted Susac’s career at various points after he emerged as a top prospect in the Giants system. The Orioles acquired him from the Brewers in a Feb. 2, 2018 trade and he went 3-for-26 with 12 strikeouts.

Susac fractured his wrist in late July while catching for Norfolk and eventually was placed on the restricted list after leaving Sarasota and returning to his Sacramento, Calif., home. He was reinstated in September.

The Orioles designated Susac for assignment on Jan. 11 to make room for infielder Hanser Alberto on the 40-man roster. He was outrighted a week later.

Wynns still isn’t ready to play in extended spring training games, but he’s taking batting practice and throwing while inching closer to a return.

Meanwhile, David Hess became the second Orioles pitcher last night since 1974 to have a no-hit bid of at least 6 1/3 innings in his first start of a season, according to STATS. Jason Hammel had seven no-hit innings in his first start in 2012 before allowing two hits in the eighth.
